In the canon story, Liu Kang wins this tournament again, defeating both Shao Kahn and his bodyguard Kintaro. However, each playable character has their own unique, non-canonical ending if players finish the game with them. The story introduces Kuai Liang as the new Sub-Zero, who takes on his older brother Bi-Han’s identity. Bi-Han was killed by Scorpion during the first tournament.
